2017 Disappointing Products

I’ve been meaning to write this post forever but I’ve worked 12 days straight since New Year’s Day so can you blame me?🤷🏽‍♀️

Disclaimer: please don’t be offended if you see one of your favourite products. These are only ones that didn’t work for me personally and all comments reflect my own experiences.

The title’s pretty clear what this is about sooo let’s jump right in!

1. Double Wear Foundation – Esteé Lauder

This breaks my heart to add it to my list because this foundation was my absolute favourite foundation for soooooo long. I used this foundation for about a year and it got to a point where I looked at myself and realised I was delusional. The formula is known to be full coverage and doesn’t budge all day, but it’s so thick and heavy my pores were crying. The main issue I had with this foundation was the flashback it gave me. It made me look grey in flash photos and even when first applied, it would make my skin look grey and ashy. Gross.

2. Boudoir Eyes Soft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection – Too Faced

This product also breaks my heart because I love Too Faced so so so much and their Peanut Butter and Honey palette is my all time favourite. But…this is shit. I bought this palette when I went to Italy over a year ago and I used the shade In the Buff to death as it was perfect for a base eyeshadow. I tried to use the other shadows but they really lacked pigmentation and the glittery ones weren’t glittering at all. I tried to build the colour but it just became cakey and there was still. no. colour. I ended up using the one shade In the Buff and the other’s are pretty much untouched.

3. Plumprageous Matte Lip Treatment – GlamGlow

I read so many horror stories about lip plumpers so I thought to start tame and work my way to the hard stuff. I’m never buying another lip plumper again. I was so excited to try this as GlamGlow do amazing face masks so thought that this would be great too. Oh how wrong I was. The lipgloss brush is like a weird paddle so the gloss doesn’t apply evenly. But the main issue was that it made my lips tingle and itch anD DIDN’T EVEN PLUMP MY LIPS. Also, once you got the lipgloss in your mouth it’s game over; your whole mouth is going to tingle and itch. I’ve tried this about 3/4 times and every single time I’ve wanted to cry.

4. Moisture Quenching Hydra-Balance Lotion – Clarins

This product is actually really good. I have really dry skin and it gives it immediate hydration. The formula is amazing and you don’t need to apply loads to see results. The reason why this is on my list is because of one thing and one thing only. The smell. It smells so so so old. I wore it once as a base under my normal moisturiser then I applied primer, then all my make-up yet all day I could smell it. It’s so upsetting as the product is incredible but I can’t get over that smell so it’s got to go.

5. Lip Lingerie – NYX Cosmetics

These matte liquid lipsticks were so raved about for being Kylie Cosmetics’ Lip kit dupes and because I liked the Kylie ones so much (but didn’t want to keep spending a fortune on shipping & taxes) I wanted to try them. They were only £6 each so it made sense to buy 4. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like these, I absolutely hate them. I really, really hate them. The applicator is fluffy and pointy so it makes applying the lipstick so difficult. I heard that the formula was really creamy (which is great) but it was almost too creamy that it didn’t apply on the lips evenly. It took ages to dry and would dry smeary and honestly looked awful. I’ve used them all once but can’t bring myself to throw them out.

6. The POREfessional Face Primer – Benefit

Another raved about product. I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with Benefit, I try a lot of their stuff and some are amazing and some are just overpriced and shit. This falls into the ‘Overpriced and Shit’ category. Sorry. I wanted this to work for me so badly and I’ve even gone through two tubes of this to make sure I actually hate it…and I do. This primer feels amazing when first applied but throughout the day I start to look oily and my make-up is sliding all over the place. It claims that pores are meant to look smaller but all this does is clogs them up. Definitely not buying a third tube!

  3. I agree with the porefessional! Whenever I use it I find it doesn’t do anything but make me look greasy! Also the too faced palette is a shame. I feel like its hit or miss with them as well. Some of their palettes are to die for and the others are just too much money and a bust!

    1. Me too! I have really dry skin so I was surprised at how greasy it made my skin look. Yeah I’m so gutted about the Too Faced palette – I might buy a new one because I might have just got a dud!
