19 Things I’ve Learned in 19 Years

(I know my birthday was over a month ago but I’ve been mega busy and I’m the worst blogger ever I know)

Over the past year or so, a lot has happened in my life, meaning that every day I’m learning something new. So I thought I’d join the hype and make a list of 19 things I’ve learnt in my 19 years of living.

1. Life is too short.

I feel like everyone says this one. But it’s 100% true.

2. Always, always, always listen to your mum.

As much as I hate to say it, she’s right. No matter what it is, she’s always going to be right.

3. Communicate.

With everyone and anyone. The biggest thing I’ve learnt in the past 6 months is that communicating is the best way. If it’s bothering you, say it. If you’re unsure about something, ask. If you have something to say, say it.

4. It’s 100% ‘OK’ to admit you’re wrong.

Many may find it hard to believe that someone as great as me fucks up every once in a while (all the time), but if there’s one thing I’ve found the hardest to learn is to openly say that I’m wrong. People are so scared to admit that they’ve messed up but life is literally all about learning.

5. Time is more valuable than money.

If you waste your money you can get it back. Once time has been spent, there is no way to earn it back.

6. I cannot handle 3 shots of Tequila.

Don’t judge me. I have a little body, it’s normal that I can’t handle alcohol.

7. The 5 Year Rule.

This is probably my favourite one. If a situation is not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it.

8. Don’t compare yourself to others.

Everyone does this and even if we try not to, it happens sometimes. It’s easy to get into a slump about yourself when you hear someone doing better than you. It’s always best to realise that someone else will be looking at you wishing they had what you have.

9. Listen more than you speak.

This will make you see and understand so much more. (For those that know me you’ll be laughing right about now, but give me a break, I’m still working on this one.)

10. Do whatever the fuck you like.

Don’t listen to what other people think about YOUR decisions. If you want to do something then do it, even if it’s stupid. (Within reason of course)

11. Sleep is so important.

I’m so tired of being tired omg.

12. It’s okay to be selfish sometimes.

Always do what’s best for you.

13. Not everything requires an answer.

Sometimes things will be left unanswered and you just have to deal with that.

14. My card details.

Learning my card details off by heart is probably the smartest and stupidest thing I could have taught myself.

15. Say ‘yes’ to everything…

Take every opportunity available. Some of my favourite moments are because I stepped out of my comfort-zone and said ‘yes’.

15. …but sometimes saying ‘no’ is necessary.

It’s easy to be sucked into a habit of saying yes all the time and that just adds pressure and stress. I’ve learnt that it’s definitely OK to say ‘no’ sometimes.

16. Going on one holiday a year is not enough.

Trust me on this one.

17. Keep your life private.

With social media being such a huge thing it’s normal to fall into a trap where you expose everything about your life. Sometimes keeping certain things to yourself saves a lot of drama.

18. Not everything needs a reaction.

Probably the biggest thing I’ve learnt. If someone is acting like a dick, you don’t need to deal with it.

19. Stay away from anything that doesn’t make you happy.

Love yo’ self.
